‘House of the Dragon’: Where are Daemon and Rhaenyra during episode 9?

‘The Green Council’ begins a few hours after the latest events in the previous chapter, the death of Viserys (Paddy Considine). After the king’s death, we will see Alicent and the company working around the clock to conceal the monarch’s death, as they conspire to crown Alicent’s first son with Viserys, Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), ignoring the officially designated successor, Rhaenyra. . The episode will focus on the Greens seeking allies to support Aegon’s public coronation at the Dragon Pit.

This is the first episode not to feature the appearances of Daemon (Matt Smith) and Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), and takes place in one place: King’s Landing. The Targaryen family is not featured in “The Green Council” because they left for Dragonstone at the end of the previous chapter and may still be traveling or settling after her arrival. For this reason, the entire plot focuses on the actions taken by the Greens and how Rhaenyra’s absence makes it easier for her to stop the part led by Hightower from stealing her succession, the Game of Thrones.

“The Green Council” focuses on the green side party, with the absence of the family of Rhaenyra and Daemon and their total ignorance of Viserys’ death and the Hightower’s usurpation of the throne. The green side will make sure this high treason news doesn’t reach Dragonstone by forbidding everyone to leave the city. However, Princess Rhaenys (Eve Best) will flee in the middle of Aegon’s coronation on the back of her dragon Meleys, bringing the news to Dragonstone so that the Targaryens return to Landing claiming what belongs to them and has been usurped. This episode takes place in real time, so not showing Daemon and Rhaenyra on Dragonstone was a good decision, as it doesn’t interrupt the treacherous storyline being brought forward by the Greens.

Rhaenyra is oblivious to all these events, and having not seen her in this episode, it will be much more surprising when we see her in the last chapter learning about the usurpation of her throne by the Greens, through the word of Rhaenys. Surely the tenth episode will show us the black point of view, unlike this one, but we will also find green characters, as we have seen some supporters of blacks in the latter. as Rhaenys, Harrold Westerling (Graham McTavish), Ser Erryk Cargyll (Elliott Tittensor) and Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno).

What will be the fate of Westeros?

In this chapter the greens get a clear advantage on the black side, as Aegon has been crowned King of Westeros and now resides in the Red Keep, which gives him a great advantage over Rhaenyra in the face of war, the Dance of the Dragons. Princess Targaryen will not have the support of her people as she will be crowned in her home, Dragonstone, in an intimate ceremony away from all her allies in Westeros.

Also, Otto Hightower is already sending messages to find allied homes to support his cause in the war, so Rhaenyra and Daemon must hurry up and do the same, they all need the support of other houses in the great war that awaits them. Rhaenyra’s main problem is no longer defending his rightful heir to the Iron Throne, but recovering him from the hands of the Greens, who have seated and crowned Aegon and are ahead in the classic history of the struggle for power. We will discover all this and more in the next and final chapter of the first season, which will debut next Monday at 3:00 am on HBO Max.
