The adaptation of Roal Dahl’s classic novel “Matilda” is coming to Netflix to mix the best of British musicals and cinema. The film is directed by Matthew Warchus (“Pride”) and written by Dennis Kelly (“Utopia”) and promises a lot. Here is his new trailer:
Alisha Weirknown for her role as Laura in the ‘Darklands’ series, she will film debut to embody Matilda Wormwood. Her curious and intelligent girl discovers she has magical powers, despite her having mischievous parents who reject everything she has to do with the interests of her daughter, and criticize her for being an avid reader.
At school, Matilda will find refuge in her teacher, Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch), who believes in her and encourages her to explore her abilities. During her stay at Crunchem Hall boarding school, Matilda will face the rules and then the director herself, the evil Miss Trunchbullstarring one of the pillars of British cinema: Emma Thompson.
The film follow the line of the musical created by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2010 and has since toured the West End and Broadway, also acting its own adaptation in Spaincurrently on stage. Although at first the plot doesn’t seem to be far from that known, critic Stephanie Bunbury praises it along with the cast, stating that “It is clear that Warchus and the rest of the team they didn’t just adapt the musicalbut they have rethought it from top to bottom “. “Matilda” will premiere on Netflix on Christmas dates, 25th December.

It is impossible to think of Matilda and not to think of Mara Wilson in the first film adaptation. However, more than twenty-five years later, ‘Matilda’ claims to be there new reference film for future generations.
