Romeo and Juliet is undoubtedly the most important and well-known love story ever written. Obviously, William Shakespeare’s work has not remained untouched by its adaptations in the world of cinema. However, it now comes to the screen from a new prism. ‘Rosalina’ arrives at Disney + to reinvent the story of the bard from an unexpected point of view, that of Romeo’s ex-girlfriend. The film will be a very modern, up-to-date comedy directed by Karen Maine.
“What I love about the character is that she is a total feminist who fights for what she believes in, for what she wants.” tells Kaitlyn Dever, the protagonist of ‘Rosalina’ in an exclusive interview for eCartelera. “What Julieta admires about Rosalina is that she is so different and so strong”adds his partner Isabela Merced, who puts herself in the shoes of the iconic Veronese lover.
Oscar-nominated actress Minnie Driver also appears in the film, reflecting this “the film is told from a progressive and feminine point of view at a time when we are affirming women in a way that Shakespeare did not”. And it is that this new perspective was fundamental for everyone. Kyle Allen, who in “Rosalina” becomes the legendary heartthrob Romeo, says so “telling this story from a more honest point of view and connected to today’s standards … it will only make you laugh”.

new characters
One of the most interesting aspects of the film, besides its feminist perspective, is the inclusion of new characters who were not or were very minor in Shakespeare’s work. This is the case of Rosalina herself, but also of Dario, played by Sean Teale. “I like that it’s someone who doesn’t care about other people’s opinions, how they perceive it. It will do good and it doesn’t matter if anyone notices it. “says the actor. “She is a woman who could never do the things that Rosalina will do. She is a great nurse but there she is, working as a servant” in turn points Driver to Rosalina’s nurse.
Preview “Rosalina”. on Disney + on October 14th.
