The film toured the world through various film festivals, such as the Busan Festival in South Korea, where it received the Audience Award, and the Warsaw Film Festival, where it won second place in the Audience Award. What is “The Scheme: X-ray of a Crime” about?
The story of ‘The Boss: X-ray of a Crime’ is based on testimonies and interpretations related to reality, of one of the events that most affected South America. It tells the story of Hermógenes Saldívar, a humble worker who travels to Buenos Aires in search of a better quality of life with his pregnant wife.
Despite the complicated situation, Hermógenes manages to find work in a butcher’s shop; however, the master treats him like a slave, taking advantage of him under the pretext that he will get a house for his family, taking part of his salary and offering them to live in the local warehouse. After being mistreated, Hermogenes ends up killing him.
The film is narrated in two narrative times. The first takes place in the present, following the lawyer who takes the case and decides to defend Hermogenes. The second is told from the past, where the events that happened are reconstructed up to the crime in question. Both times are built in parallel in the story until the result is achieved.
This story was first adapted in the book of the same name from Elia Neumann. It is produced, edited and directed by Sebastián Schindel, with a screenplay by Sebastián Schindel, Nicolás Batlle and Javier Olivera. The cast consists of Joaquín Furriel, Mónica Lairana, Guillermo Pfening, Luis Ziembrowski, Victoria Raposo, Germán De Silva and Andrea Garrote.
The film premiered on February 26, 2015, and you can now find it on Netflix. The scheme: the x-ray of a crime is a story that is based on the injustices caused by the abuse and labor exploitation that many people suffer on a daily basis, so it is easy to identify with the abuses and cruelties suffered by the protagonist.
