Viggo Mortensen is destined to act and direct a new western titled The dead don’t hurt. He will act alongside Vicky Krieps in the movie.

The film is set in 1860 and Krieps plays “the fiercely independent French-Canadian Vivienne Le Coudy who enters into a relationship with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Mortensen). After meeting Olsen in San Francisco, Vivienne agrees to travel with him to her home near the quiet town of Elk Flats, where they begin a life together.

The Civil War separates them, “leaving Vivienne to fend for herself in a place controlled by the powerful breeder Alfred Jeffries and her violent and rebellious son Weston Jeffries aided and abetted by the corrupt mayor Rudolph Schiller. The eventual return of Olsen challenges their relationship as they must confront and make peace with the person that each has become “.

Mortensen spoke of the film, saying, “My goal is to do justice to the story of an extraordinarily resilient woman who lived in an isolated and illegal part of the southwestern United States in the 1860s. Vivienne is a woman for all seasons; courageous, invariably honest and direct, but capable of great empathy. The idea is not simply to have a woman as the protagonist in a western, but to make her lead the way in our story by virtue of her fiercely uncompromising nature. Vivienne is a true woman who is alone in her time and place due to her principled behavior, foresight and passion for life. We are very fortunate to have the talented Vicky Krieps embody this role and, with the help of the great team we have assembled thanks to Talipot Studio, we hope to do justice to her exemplary life. “

Producer Regina Solorzano he added: “The dead don’t hurt revolutionizes the codes of the western genre, leaving aside the concept of war of men to witness a love story without archetypes, and the struggle and determination of a woman to win the most epic of battles: survive abuse and violence extreme without ever betraying itself “.

The film is also the protagonist Solly McLeod (House of the Dragon), Danny Huston (Worlds apart), Garret Dillahunt (blonde), Tom Bateman (Death on the Nile), Launch Henriksen (Falling), And W. Earl Brown (The Unforgivable).

As a Western fan, I can’t wait to see how it turns out. Shooting for the film will begin on October 12 in Canada.
