After years of development, Blumhouse is indeed ready to move forward with its film adaptation of the horror game Five nights at Freddy’s! Producer Jason Blum has just announced that the film will be directed by Emma Tammi (The wind, Red Moon) and that it will start production in February 2023!

The film is based on the game franchise created by Scott Cawthon, who follows “a night security guard as he begins work at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. As she spends her first night at work, she realizes the concert won’t be that easy as the animatronic animals that entertain the children during the day play their sinister games at night. “

The director said in a statement: “Entering the rich and terrifying world of Freddy’s alongside Scott Cawthon, Blumhouse and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is beyond thrilling. I can’t wait for the public to immerse themselves in the wonderful and wild playground we are creating. “

Jason Blum, CEO and founder of Blumhouse, added: “Five Nights at Freddy’s is more constantly questioned than any movie I’ve ever worked on and I’m thrilled to confirm it’s finally happening! With Emma Tammi at the helm, we’re committed to bringing Scott’s movie to life. Rest assured, it will be and worth the wait ”.

Cawthon said, “In meeting Emma, I felt she had a great understanding of the franchise and I really felt she could create something that would satisfy the fan base and keep people in suspense.”

It was previously revealed that Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will work with Blumhouse to bring the game’s animatronic creatures to life. Blum previously said: “It’s great to work with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Their experience and expertise with animatronics is absolutely deadly!

In 2015 Gil Kenan (House of monsters) was commissioned to direct the film and in 2017 Chris Colombo (Harry Potter) was attached. I thought Kenan was an inspired choice, but it didn’t work. Now, we’ll just have to wait and see what Tammi brings to the film. I’m just thrilled that the project is actually moving forward at last.
