Striking Super Mario Bros trailer featuring Chris Pratt’s voice and incredible set design – Diffusion (Illumination)
The video game giant Nintendo has made official the first trailer of the new animated film this October 6, 2022 “The Super Mario Bros Movie” based on the popular video game saga, starring the most famous plumber in the world, present on the market for more than 4 decades. The film opens later April 7 from 2023.
In the trailer we are shown for the first time the artistic drawing and the colorful setting of the film, so characteristic of Mario video games. This contrasts with the live-action adaptation of Mario, starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, released in theaters in 1993 and proved to be a box office flop and critic.
The trailer for the film also showed one of the most anticipated aspects of the franchise by fans: listening to Chris Pratt (known for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy) as Mario, as the video game character is particularly recognized for not talking too much in video games, added to his Italian accent.
In the first part of the trailer we can appreciate the incredible design of Mario’s nemesis Bowser, the king of the Koopas, as well as his incredible floating castle. He lashes out at the penguin king, knocking down his castle with a fiery attack. To realize that what he was looking for was the five-pointed star, so characteristic of video games.
Then we went to see the monumental landscape of the Kingdom of Mushrooms where Mario is thrown from a green pipe. Not knowing where he is, he ends up stumbling upon Toad, a character also characteristic of the games saga due to his mushroom-shaped head. The trailer ends with the two walking towards the horizon, where we can see Princess Peach’s grand castle.
Super Mario Bros: The Movie has a top notch cast and production
This new Mario film not only has the voice of Chris Pratt, but also has a top notch cast in which we can hear the voices of Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser or Seth Roger as Donkey Kong. The film also features Charles Martinet, Mario’s original voice actor, as a surprise cameo.
The trailer shows us all the artistic work and studio dedication behind the film, lighting, who also covered “Despicable Me” or “Minions”. The film will be released by Universal Pictures and is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. Its theatrical release is scheduled for April 7, 2023.
