There, the “Departed” actor fired a weapon that was supposed to be blanks, although he initially denied pulling the trigger. The shot killed the film’s cinematographer and injured Joel Souza, the film’s director. Now, both Baldwin and the “Rust” team have managed to reach a financial settlement with the victim’s family.

The deal is still subject to court approval, according to Matthew Hutchins, the aforementioned widower.

Through his attorney Brian Panish, the victim’s husband stated the following: “Filming on “Rust”, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all of the original main actors on board in January 2023.. Baldwin himself also announced the deal via his Instagram account, where he wrote: “We are pleased to announce today the resolution of the civil lawsuit filed on behalf of the family of director of photography Halyna Hutchins. The deal comes only a few weeks after learning it the New Mexico district attorney was ready to file a complaint and prosecute four involved in said manslaughter, including Baldwin. To do this, the state of New Mexico has approved a budget line of approximately $ 317,000 to make it possible.

However, Heather Brewer, spokesperson for the Office of the First District Attorney for the State of New Mexico, announced in a statement that this agreement will have no impact on the ongoing criminal investigation: “The deal announced today in Matthew Hutchins’ manslaughter case against producers of the film ‘Rust’, including Alec Baldwin, in the death of Halyna Hutchins will have no impact on the District Attorney’s ongoing investigation into Mary Carmack-Altweis. or in his final decision to bring a criminal case. While civil cases are resolved privately and often involve financial damage, criminal cases are all about facts. If the facts and evidence justify criminal charges under New Mexico law, the charges will be filed. Nobody is above the law”.
