Video game developer Retrotainment is looking to have fun with the classic Children’s garbage bucket franchise as they created a new video game for the titled property Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike and the search for stale rubber. The game was developed for the retro NES system as well as for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
I love that they are actually making a new game for the original NES system! That NES game will be released in early 2023. But the game will be released on the aforementioned modern consoles on October 25th.
Here are the details that were shared:
In the 1980s, the world was ruled by two things: the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Garbage Pail Kids cards. These adorable and gross monstrous babies can be found in the lunch boxes of every latchkey boy, juvenile delinquent, scoundrel and brat in your neighborhood. At the same time, Nintendo was taking America by storm with its first home video game console. So, it only makes perfect sense when these two dominant forces of ’80s pop culture have come together … right? Right?????
Well, here’s the thing: it never happened. UNTIL NOW!!
iam8bit Presents, along with Retrotainment developers / time travelers and our friends at Topps, are proud to reveal this brand new Garbage Pail Kids game on a real, working NES cartridge! That’s right, Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike and the Quest for Stale Gum is a brand new game for the NES! This old-school platformer features four playable GPK characters, six disgusting and secret-filled levels, and its own trading card system. It’s a complete return to the golden age of gaming.
And of course, we had to house it all in a SICK iam8bit exclusive NES cartridge collector package. Available in Stale Gum Pink and Mad Mike Blue color variants, this pack also includes a premium full-color instruction booklet and an exclusive batch of Pixel Art GPK cards. Plug this sucker into your NES! Because it will really work !!

You can download Garbage Pail Kids: Made Mike and the Quest for Stanle Gum on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and the Epic Game Store coming to GPKGame.com. It will come with loads of quality of life features like rewinding, a “view mode” and saving states.
There will be bonus content such as an exclusive cut of the stop-motion short film Mad Mike: Full of fury, a documentary trailer, concept art, archival card scans, various filters and a music player. It will be $ 9.99 on those platforms.
The physical cartridge will cost you $ 79.99. It will come with more things, including an instruction booklet with a preface by Adam F. Goldberg (the game’s author), pixel art cards of his playable characters and a retro box. Those who pre-order the cartridge will also receive a download code for any platform.
Game characters include:
MY MOTHER: The titular character, Mike, uses a sword and ax for melee attacks
LUCA PUKE: He’s going to throw up! Luke’s downward puke takes care of the enemies on the lower platforms
LINDSAY THAT LOSES: Lindsay’s horizontal snot rockets provide much-needed ranged attacks
PATTY MASTIC: Think of her as the Luigi of the group. Higher jumps and head shots are more like a Mario Bros game.
Here is a small documentary that you can watch along with some screenshots of the Game Informer game.
