Vanessa Williams’ Penthouse Magazine Scandal in the works as a limited series on Sony TV

Actress, singer and former Miss America, Vanessa Williams, is telling his story in an upcoming limited series on Sony TV. Williams made history in 1983 by becoming the first black woman to be crowned Miss America. Weeks before completing her reign, she was forced to resign from her title under pressure from the organization when controversy ensued after photos of her nude taken prior to her Miss America win were posted without her consent on Penthouse. Magazine.

Faced with adversity early in her career, Williams was able to overcome the scandal and become an award-winning actress and singer in one of the entertainment industry’s most extraordinary comeback stories.

Williams said of the series:

“This project is incredibly personal to me. There are so many inaccurate and false accounts of the events surrounding this period of my life, and as a mother and as a woman of color it is important to me that my truth is told and documented from my point of view. This isn’t just a story of bold photos, it’s about misogyny and racism and I want to shed some light on that for future generations. Not only was I able to survive what could have been a scandal that would have put an end to my career, but I was able to overcome it and accomplished a job that I am extremely proud of. I look forward to continuing my long relationship with Sony, Neil Meron and Mark Nicholson and to work closely with my partners Kathy Ireland, Stephen Roseberry, Jon Carrasco and Steve Glick to bring this story to the screen. “

Williams is super talented and I’m so happy she managed to recover from this and is now able to tell her story on her own terms.
