An interesting video explores how the cars in the movies are prepared for ultimate destruction

Whenever I see beautiful cars in movies and TV shows that are completely demolished, I can’t help but cringe a little because some of those cars I would love to own! Anyway, thanks to Movies Insider, I learned something about preparing for the destruction of cars in movies I didn’t know before!

JEM F / X is a special effects house in Southern California that is hired to strategically weaken cars for crash and destruction scenes in movies and television. The video arrived with the note:

We visited JEM FX to find out how their team of effects wizards prepare cars for spectacular destruction in front of the camera.

Narrator Abby Tang describes how the JEM F / X team strategically evaluate different car parts to create specific types of crash scenes.

Taking a Buick LeSabre as our case study, JEM technicians showed us how they mark a car’s roof pillars and replace door hinges to prepare it for optimal scrap. Then we saw how the weakened car responded to various forms of destruction, from having a 3,000-pound weight dropped on the roof to being hit by the doors with a forklift.

I thought it was very interesting and I hope you like it too.
