The sci-fi franchise starring Keanu Reeves, who headed the Wachowskis until the fourth installment, is now looking for new horizons. Well, “The Matrix” will have a remake in the form of a musical, which will be directed by Danny Boyle, and will feature hip-hop dance choreography.
the acclaimed director Danny Boyle will take over ‘Matrix: Free your mind’, an immersive experience inspired by the franchise with Keanu Reeves, which will be released at the Factory International arts venue in Manchester, UK, next October, but in 2023. This theatrical adaptation of the sci-fi saga incorporates Hip-Hop choreography with hundreds of dancers.
According to a brief description of this project, according to IndieWire, it will be “an exciting journey through “The Matrix” and into a new realm of possibility”. Furthermore, throughout the site there will be something to see during the works, even in the ultra-flexible spaces of the building, responding to them and exploiting the collective energy of the moment ”.
The musical of ‘The matrix’ will be choreographed by Kenrick H20, one of the most recognized choreographers in the world of theater in the UK. As for the soundtrack, the music will be provided by Michael “Mikey J” Asante, while Sabrina Mahfouez and Es Devlin will respectively be the artists responsible for writing and creating large sculptures for the staging.

Although the news that Dany Boyle will be making a musical work of “The Matrix” has taken his followers and fans of the franchise by surprise, the truth is that, over the course of his career, the director of “28 Days Later” has also dedicated to several projects, such as the opening ceremony of the London Olympics in 2012, as well as a James Bond sketch involving Queen Elizabeth II and Daniel Craig.
At the moment, no further details have been offered about the “The Matrix” musical, as its existence was unknown. The first film in the saga came out in 1999 and has since had three more sequels, the most recent in which Keanu Reeves reverted to his character Neo just last year, and which is now available on HBOMax’s streaming platform.
For his part, Keanu Reeves recently confirmed that there will be a sequel to “Constantine 2”, while he is working on the adaptation of his comic for Netflix, “BRZRKR”. In the future we will also see him in ‘John Wick 4’ for the following year, and of which he is also developing the fifth part. As for ‘The Matrix’, there is no news that it will see a new movie in the near future.
