When Warner Bros. Discovery began demolishing movies and TV projects starting with Bad girla movie I didn’t think had a chance was that of DC Blue beetle project. I mean, if they canceled Bad girlwhy should they stick with Blue beetle?

Well, according to the director Angelo Manuel Soto, he was seriously worried, but in the end WB supported them and gave their full support to this project. During an interview with NPR, Soto said:

“I’m not going to lie. In the beginning there was worry, anger, fear. They told me not to worry, the film has their full support ”.

Now, Blue beetle it was originally to be streamed directly to HBO Max before Warner Bros. Discovery changed it to a theatrical release. It had a bigger budget than Batgirl, though, with $ 120 million, or $ 40 million more Bad girl. It interested me much more Bad girlthough.

The film’s story centers on Jamie Reyes, the alter ego of the Blue Beetle, a vigilante who has a beetle grafted onto his spine which gives him enormous powers and the ability to emit blue energy.

Blue beetle stars Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) as Reyes; Bruna Marchezine in the role of Penny, the female lead and the love interest; Belissa Escobedo as Jamie’s younger sister Milagros; as well as Harvey Guillén; And Susan Sarandon like bad Victoria Kord.

In August 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery shocked the world with the cancellation of HBO Max’s Bad girl. CEO David Zaslav didn’t believe the film worked and explained how Warner Bros. Discovery will return to the theatrical experience. With a budget of $ 90 million, Zaslav made it clear that cost reduction would be a priority. Bad girl’S the cancellation raised concerns about the state of the future DC movies like it Blue beetle. If Warner Bros. Discovery is willing to write off a new expensive property like Bad girlthe same fate could happen Blue beetle?

Blue beetle will arrive in theaters on August 18, 2023.
