‘The house of the dragon’: these were the filming in Spain

“The House of the Dragon” continues to break records during the premiere of its first season on HBO Max. The well-known streaming platform has released a new video with unreleased images from the series in Spain. To be more precise, the locations chosen for the filming of the “Game of Thrones” sequel were Cáceres, Trujillo, Lloret de Mar and La Calahorra.

Numerous anecdotes from the series’ film crew and cast members also appear throughout the video.. Peter Welter, Spanish producer of “Game of Thrones” and “The House of the Dragon”, says: “Bringing the series back to Spain is very exciting and creates great expectations. We feel a kind of pride because we have been chosen to host a new chapter in the saga. When we started working on “Game of Thrones” in 2014, in the fifth season, it was like a dream. When we were contacted to be part of the prequel, we were thrilled. It’s bigger than anything we’ve done before”.

For his part, Ryan Condal, screenwriter and co-showrunner of the series together with Miguel Sapochnik, highlights the role that the locations of our country have already played in the original series: “Spain has a great legacy that goes back to the original series and we wanted to honor it. It is a wonderful place to wander”.

At the same time, Mario Santa-Cruz, director of locations for the series in Spain, explains a little about the process of selecting the different destinations.: “They were looking for castles, large gardens and even a city that looked like King’s Landing. I found some of these places in Cáceres”.

What do the protagonists think?

For their part, some of the most popular actors and actresses of the title have expressed their opinion on filming in the Iberian Peninsula. Matt Smith, who plays Prince Daemon Targaryen, talks about the castle they used for filming in La Calahorra, Granada: “It is a large and ancient castle in southern Spain. I think it’s important for a show like this, that the more big and spectacular things you can do in real places, the better.”.

Cáceres, the city chosen to simulate King’s Landingseems to have fascinated the cast members. “Shooting in Spain was fantastic, in the beautiful old town …”says young Milly Alcock, who recently said goodbye to the series due to the time jump. “We shot in Cáceres, one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to”says Fabian Frankel, charged with bringing Ser Criston Cole back to life.

Finally, the gardens of Santa Clotilde, in Lloret del Mar, were the place chosen to represent the Red Fortress.. Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys Velaryon, talks about it: “I’ve been to Barcelona before and it’s one of my favorite cities. I hadn’t visited anything more than an hour from the city, and it’s just glorious. I would recommend it, it is a very very nice place”.

“The House of the Dragon” will be premiered next Monday, October 3, the seventh of the ten chapters corresponding to the first season.
