Among the many announcements of his future productions, there was a suspense series that surprised those who were attentive to the Netflix Tudum event. It was ‘The Watcher’, a sweltering thriller starring Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale based on true events about an unsolved case that will leave you cold.

The story of ‘The observer’ stars Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale, who plays an excited couple who just bought a new home and are happy to start family plans together. However, a mysterious individual appears in their lives and knows every aspect of what goes on inside their home. With such a terrifying premise, Netflix unveiled the first trailer for this miniseries.

The creator of ‘The observer’ is Ryan Murphy, himself responsible for the recent “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” with Evan Peters for Netflix. Although he is also known for “American Horror Story”, “Screem Queens” and for having participated in the hit musical series “Glee”. The rest of the cast also includes Mia Farrow, Noma Dumezweni, Joe Mantello, Richard Kind, Terry Kinney, Margo Martindale and Jennifer Coolidge, among others.

As can be seen in the trailer for ‘The observer’, it is the Braddock family who are the protagonists of this story, who buy their dream home in the quiet neighborhood of Stepford. One day they start receiving letters from someone who calls himself “El Vigilante”, who tells them that he is keeping an eye on them. And as if that weren’t enough, a woman named Pearl is hiding in her house.

What is the real case on which Netflix’s “The Watcher” is based?

According to the official Netflix page, ‘The Watcher’ is based on a real, still unsolved case of a family who moved to 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey, who, shortly after arriving at the scene, began to receive letters from a stalker warning them to be observed. In his mailbox, the letters were interested in how they got the house and why they were there.

The situation was reported by The Cut a few years ago, and when the royal family tried to contact the former owners of the property, they made an unexpected revelation that they too had suffered the same suffering from the time they lived in the place. The case ended when the Broaddus decided to leave the house to live more peacefully.

So far, even with the intervention of the corresponding authorities, the true identity of who called himself “El Vigilante” is unknown. “The Watcher” will be released on October 13, 2022 on Netflix and it seems to be an overwhelming and suffocating experience.
