David CronenbergThe classic 1981 horror film Scanner has been adapted into a series thanks to HBO Max. The project also has an interesting creative team that is made up of William Pontiwho wrote the “USS Callister” episode Black mirror, and will also act as a showrunner. Furthermore, Yann Demangewho directed the HBO pilot Lovecraft country is directing.
Scanner it was a crazy movie! I was a teenager when I first saw it and it blew me away. The film was about a small group of people with a range of psychic, telepathic and telekinetic powers. A faction of scanners, as these people were labeled, was led by a power madman named Revok, who aims to take over the world, while a private security company recruits its own scanners to stop it for their own, perhaps shady reasons.
The series is described as “a visceral thriller set in the shocking world of Cronenberg’s film. It will focus on two women living on the fringes of modern society who are persecuted by relentless agents with unimaginable powers and therefore must learn to work together to overthrow a vast conspiracy determined to catch them. “
Don’t worry, Cronenberg is involved and will serve as the series executive producer. I really hope this series is able to capture the insane madness of the original film. What are your thoughts Scanner to get a reboot of the series?
