After the premiere of “No Time to Die”, Daniel Craig finally said goodbye to the role of Agent 007 on the big screen, which he has given life to for more than 15 years. Now, Barbara Broccoli, producer of the films and Sony, says that the search to find the new James Bond actor is not an easy task and that the announcement may still be in a few years.
‘007: Casino Royale’ was Daniel Craig’s debut as James Bond back in 2006, and since then the actor, along with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, has changed many of the essential aspects of the character, especially with previous tapes, until the final version is found. The 25th film in the franchise marked Craig’s end in the role, and now Sony is looking for a new James Bond actor.
Several names have since been launched, such as Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, and even Tom Holland, among many others. However, none are confirmed at the moment. Now, during an interview for Variety, Barbara Broccoli explained that the search for the new James Bond actor could take several years.
The fact is, it will take a couple of years. And when we choose Bond, it’s a 10, 12 year commitment. “
Broccoli says it accepting the role of Agent 007 is a long-term commitment, something not many actors are willing to accept. He also says that Idris Elba “is probably thinking, ‘Do I really want to do this?’ Not everyone wants to do it. ”And it is that Elba was the first actor to sign in the next installment of the franchise, but not as James Bond.
Daniel Craig also thought too much about being James Bond
At the time, even Daniel Craig was not an easy man to choose for the role of James Bond, “he was pretty hard to pull off, and he was just over 30 at the time!” Wilson said. Even when Craig had already accepted the role, he regretted it at different times, because he was forced to participate in the tapes, which caused him to lose other characters of his interest to him.
It has been said that for the new James Bond they could recruit a person of African descent, or even a woman, as, according to the producers, Agent 007 adapts his masculinity to modern times. At the moment there are no more official details that anticipate who the actor might be holding the role.
So new information about it could take several years before the official actor who gives birth to James Bond. For now, Daniel Craig will continue to play a new detective, Benoit Blanc, in the “Knives Out” franchise, which was bought by Netflix, and will be extended for several more installments.
