Iron man was released by Marvel in 2008 and opened up the world of film for comic book fans. We had seen comic films being made for the big screen before this, but this was the next level and set a plan for the MCU that is still going on to this day. Just a few years earlier, the rights to Iron man they were actually held by New Line Cinema, but they never got along with a feature film for a pretty funny reason.
In a recent THR report, a source claims that “Bob Shaye, the head of New Line at the time, let the option lapse, arguing that it made no sense because Iron Man was too heavy to fly.”
I bet he regrets that decision to date. It’s silly enough to think of ruling out making a comic-book based movie because of the physics, but I guess his heart wasn’t in the project. Everything worked out for the best for Marvel and its followers, so no hard feelings on our part, but it’s fun to laugh if you’re not Bob Shaye.
