The only real interest I had for the next reboot of Quantum Leap was the hope that Scott Bakula he would show up and reprise the role of Dr. Sam Beckett.
Beckett’s spirit is kind of the heart of the series and drives the story as it’s been nearly 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the quantum leap accelerator and disappeared. In the series, a new team has been assembled to restart the project in an attempt to find Beckett.
I thought it would make sense and that it would be nice to see Beckett return at some point, but according to Bakula, he says he won’t appear in the series, which is a shame. He shared:
To Quantum Leap fans around the world, in an effort to silence the rumors and move on … First of all, thank you for hanging around for decades! Here’s the simple version of what’s going on with restarting Quantum Leap and me:
I have no connection with the new show, neither in front of the camera nor behind it. In January, the pilot was sold and a script was sent to me because the character of Sam Beckett was there, which makes sense, right? Since many of you have been asking me over the past few months, “How could you do QL without Sam?” (or Al, for that matter) Well, I guess we’re about to find out.
This is the history. As the show has always been near and dear to my heart, it was a very difficult decision to transfer the project, a decision that upset and confused so many fans of the original series. However, the idea of someone “jumping” in time and walking a mile in someone else’s shoes remains a very attractive concept and therefore worth exploring, especially considering the current state of humanity. In this spirit, I am crossing my fingers saying that this new cast and crew are lucky enough to tap into the magic that propelled the original Quantum Leap into the hearts and minds of generations past and present.

So, don’t expect to see Bakula as Sam Beckett again in the Quantum Leap reboot series. I have fond memories of seeing the original series and will give this new show a chance, but with Bakula not involved, I’m not that thrilled. What do you think?
