Thanks to multiple collaborations, the names of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton have almost always been linked in various projects. And is that both the actor and the director have a close relationship outside of the recording sets. However, there was one occasion when the famous director didn’t have him as a first choice for one of his roles, and he called Brad Pitt,
Throughout his career, Johnny Depp was recognized by Jack Sparrow ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, however, roles like’ Scissorhands’ or ‘Sweedney Tood’ were thanks to the actor’s extravagance with Tim Burton’s creativity. And one of his first collaborations was on “The Headless Horseman”, where Brad Pitt was the director’s main choice.
‘Sleepy Hollow’, or also known in Spanish as’The legend of the headless horseman’, nominated for multiple Oscars and available on Star +, starred Brad Pitt like Ichabod Crane, and more, Tim Burton he also considered Liam Neeson for the role. However, as production progressed, the director chose the safer option and called Johnny Depp.
Likewise, Tim Burton also loved Winona Ryder ‘Sleepy Hollow’, but ultimately turned him down, leaving Christina Ricci for the role of Katrina Van Tassell. On set, Johnny Depp confessed that he doesn’t have much chemistry with Ricci, since he had known her since she was 9, and her portrayal of her wasn’t the best of her career.
What is “The Legend of the Headless Horseman” about Johnny Depp?
Tim Burton’s film with Johnny Depp is inspired by the novel by writer Washington Irving, which follows detective Ichabod Crane, who begins to investigate the appearance of several headless corpses in a small village in England. The story of “The Legend of the Headless Horseman” has been adapted several times, even Disney has made its animated version.
“The Legend of the Headless Horseman” won the Oscar for Best Design, thanks to the impressive gothic sets that created the atmosphere of a horror movie, which only Tim Burton can make, making this classic one of the perfect options for the Halloween season.
It is said that according to the original story, Ichabod Crane was an unattractive person and for “The Legend of the Headless Horseman”, Johnny Depp wanted to wear prosthetics to look ugly, however, the producers refused. Perhaps for the same reason it was that Brad Pitt didn’t fit the role and the rest of Tim Burton’s film is now known around the world.
