I’ve always been intrigued by devices with e-ink displays for reading books. They seem more and more like books. Well, Rakuten Kobo recently launched pre-orders for their latest eReader, the Kobo Clara 2E. This eReader has a 6-inch Carta 1200 HD e-ink touchscreen complete with dark mode and ComfortLight PRO which filters out blue light which, according to some, increases eye fatigue. The Kobo Clara 2E also has 16GB of storage to hold up to 12,000 eBooks. You can even insert audiobooks and use built-in Bluetooth to listen to your books if you prefer. Oh, and this is completely waterproof and meets the requirements of the IPX8 rating (up to 1 hour in up to 2 meters of water). You can also use OverDrive to borrow from your local library (if they use OverDrive) or use Pocket to save and read articles online.
One of the best parts of the Kobo Clara 2E is that the exterior is made with over 85% recycled plastic. This includes 10% of ocean-bound plastic, plastic destined to end up in the oceans. Rakuten Kobo says their goal is to “hijack over 200,000 plastic bottles from our planet’s oceans and over a million CDs and DVDs from landfills” over the course of just one year.
If you like that, you can pre-order your Kobo Clara 2E from Rakuten Kobo (affiliate link) now for $ 129.99. The eReader is scheduled for release on September 22nd.
