‘Blade Runner’ is and will always be one of the most important and influential titles in science fiction cinema. Ridley Scott’s masterpiece had a belated following in 2017 that garnered critical and public applause. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, “Blade Runner 2049” took us back to the fascinating world of replicants of the 1982 classic, with Harrison Ford again as Rick Dekkard and additions by Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Jared Leto and Dave Bautista.
Five years later, Scott is ready to return to the saga with a new sequel, this time in the form of a live-action miniseries, produced by Amazon Studios and will premiere on its streaming platform, Prime Video. Already in February of this year it was known that the project was under development, but now it is official. Amazon has given the green light to the limited series, which will once again see Scott as executive producer and will be titled “Blade Runner 2099″being a direct sequel to the second installment. louis silkcreator of “Las Luminosas” will serve as showrunner, with Michael Green (“Blade Runner 2049”) serving as executive producer.

“The original ‘Blade Runner’, directed by Ridley Scott, is widely regarded as one of the best and most influential science fiction films of all time and we can’t wait to introduce ‘Blade Runner 2099’ to our global Prime Video clients. . “Vernon Sanders, television director of Amazon Studios, said in an official statement (via TVLine). “We are honored to be able to deliver this continuation of the ‘Blade Runner’ franchise and are confident that in collaboration with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions and enormously talented Silka Luisa, “Blade Runner 2099″ will retain the intellect, themes and spirit of its cinematic predecessors”.
“We are very excited to continue to extend the ‘Blade Runner’ canon into a new realm with the provocative story that Silka has created.”add Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, co-CEO of Alcon Entertainment. “[…] The sequel of Denis Villeneuve, “Blade Runner 2049” has become one of the most popular in history. So we know we have a very high level to reach with this next installment.. Together with Silka and our partners Amazon and Scott Free Productions, we can’t wait to rise to the occasion and delight audiences with the next generation of “Blade Runner”. “.
Without Denis Villeneuve?
For now there are no details on the cast that will be part of ‘Blade Runner 2099’, although considering that it is a “new generation”, it is very likely that the series will present a new cast to take over from Ford and Gosling. The project statement also does not mention Villeneuve as part of the team, so it is assumed that he will not return. The Canadian director is currently busy with another science fiction saga, ‘Dune’, of which he is shooting the second part. It is also unknown who will be in charge of directing the sequel, although when it was announced last February, Scott himself was rumored to be responsible for the pilot, as he did with his other recent science fiction series, the already canceled ‘Raised by Wolves’.
