Play DUNGEONS & DRAGONS as a 4X strategy game with CROWNS AND CASTLES

I like Dungeons & Dragons. I like the Civilization Games. What if you put them in a blender and let it go? Well, you’d probably get something like this John Reilly’S Crowns and Castles supplement for 5E. This takes 5E and makes a few tweaks to make it work as a 4X strategy game. Instead of playing a single character, each player takes control of an empire that includes his military, economy, culture and diplomacy. The DM helps weave the narrative of the world while you and other players enjoy playing in a variety of modes such as co-op or PvP. Inside Crowns and Castles you’ll find 27 races, 13 class-serving governments, 10 founding backgrounds, 70 assets, over 500 military units, and more! Reilly even included an asynchronous game mode that lets you play one turn at a time, so you don’t have to worry about scheduling sessions. This sounds crazy!

Crowns & Castles lets you play D&D like a 4x empire strategy game.

You are no longer playing as a single character. In C&C you are in control of an entire kingdom that you create from scratch, making decisions for its military, economy, culture and diplomacy. That kingdom gains experience, levels up, and unlocks new skills. And you will do all of this in a cooperative, player versus player or mixed environment with a DM that drives the narrative of the world and lets you try anything you can dream of.

Choose a race, choose a government and build the backstory, construct buildings, discover natural resources, create powerful artifacts, research and cast spells that span continents, spy on your neighbors, sign treaties, trade precious luxuries, make history and make the war in a turn-based tactical combat system (check out the free demo “Battle at Shallow Mountain”).

C&C can be played at the table or asynchronously one turn at a time. You no longer have to worry about canceling sessions due to schedules. You can use C&C as a setting for multiple simultaneous D&D games where the results of one game affect everyone else in a shared, living world or simply as an engine for creating your own worlds. The system is independent of settings and easily reskinned to your existing homebrews.

You can buy Crowns and Castles now from DMs Guild (affiliate link) for $ 20.
