‘The House of the Dragon’: The HBO series increases its audience by 5% with the fourth episode

The successor to “Game of Thrones” did great on HBO: with each episode coming out on Sunday, it looks like the series is consolidating in terms of viewers. According to Variety, the audience of “The House of the Dragon” grew 5% with episodes three and four, the last two released on the platform.

According to data provided by Nielsen, the linear display of the series has remained stable with these last two chapters. A week ago, episode three drew 2.53 million viewers on four US cable broadcasts. This Sunday, with the fifth chapter, the audience has remained practically the same, with 2.47 million viewers. However, if we also take into account the retransmission of the latest episode on HBO Max and other channels of the platform, we get that the general audience of “La Casa del Dragone” increases by 5% in its country of origin week after weekthanks to the viewers who will follow the series after the live, through the HBO catalog.

The fourth episode of the series, titled “The King of the Narrow Sea,” premiered last Sunday, while NBC aired the first week of Sunday night football. The airing of the sports program will coincide with the first of the chapters every Sunday during the first season of the series. In addition to this, ‘La Casa del Dragon’ competes for a linear audience with a program that belongs to its own chain: ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’. This late night returned to HBO to air every Sunday night, after two weeks of no airing. John Oliver’s return delayed the Chapter Four premiere to time slots after the final set Sundays.

This slight 5% increase in viewership is good news for Warner Bros. Discovery, as last week’s third episode premiere saw a slight drop in cable viewers. (It should be clarified at this point that the overall audience data for the episode, including the key streaming contingent, was not available.) Therefore, in light of all this data, it seems the series is keeping its audience, which translates into good omens for “The House of the Dragon” and the Game of Thrones franchise.

An audience that grows after the direct ones

To all the data cited, it should be added that the audience of the previous episodes of ‘La casa del drago’ continues to increase with the ratings after the live broadcast. According to Gunnar Wiedenfels, chief financial officer of Warner Bros. Discovery, The first episode, which was already the most viewed premiere in HBO history with a debut of 10 million viewers, has now reached the figure of over 30 million views. Clearly, the series is making a name for itself in the public, which could make it another big phenomenon like its predecessor, “Game of Thrones”. Plus, we already know the series will continue, since HBO has it for a second season, so we can just wait and enjoy whatever is to come.
