Tons of funny announcements were made last weekend at D23, and Marvel showed up to talk about several upcoming news. There are a lot of movies and shows that we have dates and trailers for, and one project they talked about a little bit was Armor Wars. The series explores what would happen if Tony Stark’s technology fell into the wrong hands and Don Cheadle is returning to play James “Rhodey” Rhodes on the show.
In the comics, Rhodey helps Tony in his struggle to get that technology back. In the Disney + series, it will all be on Rhodes’ shoulders after Tony Stark’s death. This will give fans the opportunity to get to know Rhodey as a character in a way that has not been granted to him by previous appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Cheadle explained on his Instagram:
“We’re finding Rhodey, like you said, he’s someone who’s been through a lot. That’s what the fun is of doing the Armor Wars series is that we will have the opportunity to really delve into this aspect. What does it have to do emotionally? What does it have to do psychologically? So that’s why I said “yes”, because I think it’s going to be a lot of fun getting to know him in a way that, even though we’ve known him for many years, we don’t really know him. “
Cheadle explained to ComicBook:
“Armor Wars finds Rhodey “In a very different place in a way that’s something I can’t talk about, but it’s going to be very surprising to a lot of people. And the great thing is that there will be so many opportunities to learn a lot about him and for him to to know himself and for us, hopefully, to be really able to keep up with what makes him beat. “
He also hinted at what it means to now be one of the senior cast members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying:
“I think that’s the fun, how expansive it can be. We don’t lose the old character, but we insert new characters, so we combine the newest and oldest characters and that creates your own kind of So that’s the funniest thing about being. in these shows, the opportunity to mutually pollinate each other’s projects and find ways these relationships continue to work and conflicts we keep creating, and I think they do a great job about it, always making it interesting, exciting and things you really can’t to anticipate”.
Walton Goggins will also return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe Armor Warsreprising his role from Ant-Man and the wasp. Armor Wars is a six-episode series by Marvel Studios and is expected to begin production in Atlanta in early 2023.
