At Expo D23 Disney announces new projects, and one of those surprises that no one expected to arrive was ‘Mufasa’, prequel to the live action film ‘The Lion King’, but not the animated one, but from 2019, and which will be directed by the Academy Award winner for ‘Moonlight’, Barry Jenkins.

On the first day of the G23, disney announced ‘The Lion King: Mufasa’, which will be directed by Barry Jenkins, and which will focus on the figure of the king, Simba’s father. Although it has not been confirmed whether actor James Earls Jones, who brought the character to life in the 2019 film, would return to voice him.

Furthermore, they confirmed it Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will return as Timon and Pumbaa ‘Mufasa’. The story will be told in two timelines, one told by the meerkat and the boar, along with Rafiki, and the second centered on Mufasa, who will be just an orphaned cub, until he rises to the royalty of the kingdom.

At the moment it has not been confirmed what the cast of characters will be for ‘Mufasa’, which will be released in 2024. Being a childhood prequel to the Lion King, his brother Scar and Simba’s uncle may also appear, who were also given their lives by Oscar winner Chiwetel Ejiofor.

More news on this prequel is expected to be announced soon, as are the rest of the cast of voice actors and actresses who will appear in “The Lion King: Mufasa”, due out in 2024. Although details appear to be firm they are far from revealed. .
