At some point in his career as a director James Gunn tempted to do a Sicario movie. He actually launched a Sicario movie right before hers landed Guardians of the Galaxy concert at Marvel, the film that would change the trajectory of his career.
The director answered a question on Twitter from a fan asking which video game series would become a great movie and responded with the following:
“Weeks before I got Guardians I launched a Hitman movie. The studio really wanted to hire me, but a producer on the project didn’t. I was disappointed then, but thank God, because I would never be able to do GotG if they told them to. Yes!”
I bet the producer who turned down Gunn is kicking his ass. It all worked out for Gunn in the end, though, thanks to Guardians. But I’d like to see what Gunn would do with a Sicario movie! I love that video game franchise and, unfortunately, we’ve never had a big movie adaptation.
Gunn wanted an R classification Sicario movie, but the producers wanted a PG-13 movie, which is ridiculous because the video game is full of R-rated content. I don’t know how some of these Hollywood executives and producers end up in their positions. Many of them seem to lack a lot of common sense.
You would have liked to have seen James Gunn do a Sicario movie?
