JRR Tolkien he is said to have said: “I have the hatred of apartheid in my bones; and above all I hate the segregation or separation of Language and Literature. I don’t care which of them White thinks.
But there seems to be a good number of people out there claiming to be Tolkien fans who relentlessly attack the show for a variety of reasons and, unfortunately, some of those reasons involve the diversity of the cast. Heaven forbid that a world full of different races and characters is full of a cast of different races. I don’t understand hate because Tolkien was all about love and telling inspiring stories and that’s what he’s doing this series, and so far he’s doing it well!
Well, the cast and crew of The Lord of the Rings: The rings of power they released a statement condemning the hatred that is spewed out by trolls. This statement reads:
“We, the cast of Power rings, stand together in absolute solidarity and against the relentless racism, threats, harassment and abuse that some of our black cast mates suffer on a daily basis. We refuse to ignore or tolerate it.
“JRR Tolkien has created a world which, by definition, is multicultural. A world in which free peoples of different races and cultures come together, in communion, to defeat the forces of evil. Power rings reflects it. Our world has never been all white, fantasy has never been all white. Middle-earth is not all white. The BIPOCs belong to Middle-earth and are here to stay.
“Finally, all of our love and friendship goes out to the fans who support us, especially fans of color who are being attacked simply for being featured in this fandom. We see you, your courage and endless creativity. Yours. cosplay, fancam, fan art and insights make this community a richer place and remind us of our purpose. You are valid, you are loved and you belong. You are an integral part of the LORT family, thank you for supporting us. “The statement ends with the Elvish word “Namárië”, which means “Farewell”.
I never liked bullies. I’ve had my fair share of bullying all my life and, having an online presence, it hasn’t really stopped. I’m totally open to constructive criticism and friendly, cold debates, but damn … things have gotten ugly. These Tolkien stories are meant to uplift and inspire people. That’s why I’ve always loved his stories! They inspire me to death and make my imagination explode. I will always defend the good stories that do!
We stand in solidarity with our cast. #YouAreAllWelcomeHere pic.twitter.com/HLIQdyqLmr
