Mexican talent and cinema continue to grow and increase their chances of success; the Mexican horror film “Presencias”, directed by Luis Mandoki brings back the actress Yalitza Aparicio, who obtained international recognition for her participation in “Rome” (2018), a film in which she made her debut as an actress and which opened her doors to the film industry.
‘Presencias’ is the life story of Víctor, (Alberto Ammann), a man who decided to return to his childhood hut after a great tragedy. Upon his return, he meets Paulina, the character Yalitza Aparicio plays for Luis Mandoki’s new project. The plot will go from a “descent into hell, according to the Argentine actor.
I am very happy to release this film. It was very difficult because it represented a “descent into hell” through Victor, “Ammann said.
Alberto also stressed the importance that both he and his colleagues took the opportunity to work side by side with Mandoki: “It is the director I have worked with who knows the work of actors and actresses the most,” he shared.

His partner agreed with Ammann Yalitza Aparicio, who returns to the cinema after her successful debut in “Rome” (2018) which led her to be nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars and where she met Mandoki.
“When I sat down with Luis to talk about the character, he gave me the opportunity to work as I had done or, if I allowed him, to give me his advice. I said ‘Yes, sure.’ I also want to learn other ways to build a character to expand on what I’ve learned, “he said.
Also, she recalled when the director told her he had a project he wanted her to participate in, she was excited and wished it could happen. And it was done and he not only learned from Mandoki, he explained, but also from Ammann, who has great experience and iconic productions behind him, such as “Cell 211” – with which he won the Goya Award for Best Revealing Actor – or the his participation in the “Narcos” series.
There are people I learned from on and off the set. Alberto off the set shared with me some tips that have helped me a lot during this period, and it’s something that is appreciated with the work team, “he said.
Furthermore, both the director and the two main actors said they were very happy with the result, which will be able to be seen by the public from 7 September through the ViX Plus platform or at the Cineteca Nacional starting this Tuesday.
An incredible result is always the result of teamwork. We did it with a lot of passion, “Aparicio said.
‘Presencias’ recording “was not a bed of roses”
Mandoki shared that the road to the premiere “wasn’t a bed of roses”, especially during filming, which started off on the wrong foot after its start had to be delayed because a week before the scheduled date, one of the cabins they had built .
In making the film I thought: ‘Doing theater is much easier’. Terror requires a lot of study, a lot of preparation, thinking a lot about the rhythm, thinking about how much you show, how you move the camera, how you handle the sound, look for suitable places “, etc., he shared.
However, after a lot of planning, a lot of work with the actors and endless perseverance, he said he was surprised “by what has been achieved”. The film is also directed by acclaimed French cinematographer Philip Lozano, someone Mandoki dreamed of working with.
“It was a great opportunity, everything was incredible with the actors, we had a lot of battles, it wasn’t easy but it was something really incredible and very special for me. I’m very grateful to Luis,” Lozano concluded. (With information from EFE).
