Ann Heche died from injuries sustained after a car accident that caused a fire near her home. A new report has revealed that the actor was inside the car for about 45 minutes before rescue efforts began.
Firefighters were unable to get into the vehicle in which Heche had been sitting for about 20 minutes, according to records obtained by the Los Angeles City Fire Department NBC4. After arriving at the scene, it took another 20 minutes to get the car out of the burning house to save Heche.

“I will say that the person in the vehicle is not in the driver’s seat, but on the floor of the passenger seat,” Vice President Fields said after Hatche was confirmed to be in the vehicle.
Heche would die seven days later from “smoke inhalation and thermal injuries,” according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s report.

The actor was declared brain dead on August 11, but he survived because Heche wanted to donate his organs. Hatche was released from life support on August 14.
“We have lost a bright light, the kindest and most joyful spirit, a loving mother and a devoted friend,” Hatche’s family said posthumously. “Ena will be greatly missed, but she lives on through her beautiful children, iconic work and passionate advocacy. Your courage to always stay in your truth and spread a message of love and acceptance will continue to make a lasting impression. “
