In that interview he also talked about his current work on the soundtrack of the next chapter of “Indiana Jones”, revealing that he has already finished 30% of the composition. This film, still untitled, will be released in theaters June 30, 2023 and is directed by James Mangold, with the production of Steven Spielberg. Additionally, it will star Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann and Boyd Holbrook, among others.

On the other hand, in an interview with the Associated Press in June, Williams told the outlet that “Indiana Jones 5” it could be his latest soundtracknoting that Harrison Ford would also retire after the premiere of this sequel, something the actor has not yet publicly stated. “Right now I’m working on ‘Indiana Jones 5’, which I think Harrison Ford, who is a little younger than me, has announced will be his last film.”, commented the composer in that interview. Furthermore, he added: “So I thought, ‘If Harrison can do it, then maybe I can do it too.'”

A retreat that is anything but definitive

Williams did not say that he would stop composing music, but that he would withdraw from the film world in particular, also confessing that he did not want to be eliminated from any activity related to this world. Indeed, it is clear that he will continue to compose concert music after his work on ‘Indiana Jones 5’. Last spring the composer released the album “A Gathering of Friends”, a collaboration with famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma, with reworked arrangements of his soundtracks for the films “Schindler’s List”, “Munich” and “Lincoln” . . In addition to “Indiana Jones 5,” Williams has recently worked on other soundtracks, including his collaboration with Spielberg on the director’s next semi-autobiographical film, “The Fabelmans,” which is slated for release in November.

In any case, if Williams decides to pursue his idea of retiring from the film industry, the producers of ‘Bond’ seem to be the ones to convince him to change his mind and work on his film.
