US Delegate Jacqueline Lyanga Appointed for Berlin Film Festival as Event’s International Network Expands

The Berlin Film Festival said on Tuesday it has appointed Los Angeles-based industry expert Jacqueline Lianga as the US delegate as it expands its international network and aims to strengthen its relations with the film industry and American filmmakers.

Lianga, who will assist with film watching and also organize screening tours of the Berlinale on the West Coast of the US, will work closely with Ryan Werner, who has been the festival’s US delegate since 2019.

“We are happy and proud to have Jacqueline Lianga on our team and look forward to working with her,” said Berlinale Artistic Director Carlo Chatriani. “I’ve known him for years and admire his taste, energy and personality. I am confident he will do an excellent job with Ryan Werner and strengthen our ties with the American film industry.”

Lianga founded Global Cinematheque, a US-based organization, to promote international film and talent in 2020.

Most recently, he was the DEI Chair at IMDb, which includes worldwide inclusive infrastructure and creative content development for IMDb and IMDbPro users.

Prior to joining IMDb, Lianga was the Artistic Director of Film Independent in Los Angeles and from 2010 to 2018 was the Director of AFI Fest, the American Film Institute’s annual international film festival in Los Angeles.

Launched XR and Technical Exhibition, Youth Film Programs, New Writers and Masters Sections, and Global Artist Residency Program at AFI Fest.

Lianga was awarded the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres by the French government for promoting French cinema and culture. In the USA he also received the Royal Order of the Kingdom of Belgium.
