We’ve known for months when the 2023 Sundance Film Festival kicks off, but now we know how Park City’s cast will line up and how it will differ between its live and virtual cast.

For the first time since 2020, Sundance, founded by Robert Redford, will kick off with the first festival on January 19 with screenings and events in the ski town and other parts of Utah. However, it has been announced today that virtual Sundance will start on January 24 for those who can’t take a trip to Park City or who are still worried about Covid.

As for the past two years, the digital festival will feature a selection of Sundance-curated, on-demand feature films, including all competing titles for US Drama, US Documentary and US Documentary. , World Cinema Drama, World Cinema Documentary and more. . categories. In addition, the virtual festival will feature multimedia studies and discussion panels, alongside new work from other parts of the artistic program, including episodic works and short films.

For health and safety reasons, masks are required for all Sundance 2023 volunteers and staff. While masks are not mandatory for those attending screenings at venues such as the Egyptian Theater in Park City, moviegoers should wear masks for the benefit of all. While Sundance strongly encourages everyone who comes to take every possible precaution against Covid, testing and vaccinations are also not required for in-person attendees at this stage.

Applications remain open as potential entrants plan their post-holiday trip to Sundance. Acceptance of feature films will end on September 5 (official) and September 26 (late). Acceptance of short films will end on September 5 (afternoon). New Frontier performances close (late) September 9th. Submissions for chapter content closed on August 26 (official) and September 12 (late).
