Russell Crowe will play the former homicide detective in the crime thriller THE SLEEPING DOGS

Oscar Prize Russell Crowe (Gladiator, A brilliant mind) has signed on to play a former homicide detective tasked with reexamining a brutal murder case from his past in the crime thriller Sleeping dogs. The Nickel City Pictures film marks the directorial debut of Adam Cooperwho wrote the script with Bill Collage.

The film is an adaptation of EO Chirovicithe acclaimed novel, The book of mirrors. Cooper and Collage previously wrote the scripts for Assassin’s Creed And Exodus: gods and kings.

Crowe plays “Roy Freeman, who is undergoing cutting-edge treatment for Alzheimer’s. He is forced to confront the impact of an investigation on his previous life after a death row inmate Freeman arrested 10 years earlier began proclaiming him innocent. Intrigued and struggling to regain his memory, Freeman enlists his former partner to help him revive the case and uncover the truth. Together, they set out to uncover an intricate web of secrets, forcing Freeman to make horrific discoveries.

Cooper said of Crowe taking over the role:

“Our memory of the past is what gives us a context for who we are. A character without this ability has a very complex kind of humanity and there is no one better than Russell Crowe in embodying complex characters. ”

Principal shooting is expected to begin in January 2023.
