Do you notice that the skin is different after the summer? It’s normal! The changes in the skin after the summer period have an explanation and we want to tell you about them so that you can get started on improving your condition.
According to an article published in the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology: “An increase in temperature could increase the prevalence of some skin pathologies; more people would suffer from sensitive skin and greater skin xerosis due to a drop in relative humidity. Changes in skin barrier function are said to increase the severity and prevalence of atopic dermatitis. The greater proportion of UVB radiation reaching the Earth’s surface, along with the population’s habits of increased light exposure, along with improper photoprotection, make higher rates of skin cancer and photoaging to be expected.”
All the changes that take place outdoors affect your skin, therefore, with rising temperatures, longer hours of exposure to solar radiation, contact with sea and pool water, and any routine other than the one you usually follow during the rest of the year, you may find that your skin different.
What are the most common changes the skin experiences in summer?
More fat production. With the rise in temperature, sebum production is stimulated to prevent dehydration of the skin, leaving your skin feeling oilier and more glowing in the summer. Keeping it hydrated keeps excess sebum in check. Look for very light and gel-like textures. With oily skin, the pores are more visible, so it can also help to include exfoliating active ingredients to prevent the build-up of dead cells that clog the pores. Which product do we recommend? Innia Beauty’s Forever Glow Gel Cream, for example, is a gel-textured moisturizer ideal for oily skin, formulated with gluconolactone (exfoliating active ingredient), niacinamide and vegetable ceramides.
Lack of hydration. Longer exposure to the sun causes loss of hydration in the skin due to the change caused by solar radiation in the collagen fibers. As a result, the skin diminishes its ability to maintain hydration.
Appearance of spots. Excessive sun causes the appearance of spots and strengthens others we already had, the best way to prevent this is to use sunscreen and regulate the time of sun exposure.
Acne or pimples that we didn’t have before. With the increase in the production of sebum and the more dilated pores, we facilitate the appearance of pimples that we did not have before. Keeping the skin hydrated and exfoliated with mild active ingredients such as polyhydroxy acids (gluconolactone) prevents imperfections.
The skin barrier is weakened and it is undergoing more changes, therefore the main purpose would be to protect it and provide it with the necessary assets to restore its state. For this, look for respectful cosmetics with the most sensitive skin, your skin is weakened and damaged. Avoid active ingredients such as glycolic acid or salicylic acid in very high concentrations and use them when your skin has recovered. For example, you can use the Innia Beauty All In One serum (€19.95), formulated with niacinamide and gluconolactone, as well as prebiotics and hyaluronic acid, to control and reduce dark spots and blemishes.
