Following its big screen debut, Roadside Attractions can now be seen on Hulu after the distributor signed a multi-year deal with the streamer for the post-theater Pay 1 window.
Hulu will get exclusive streaming rights in the US for upcoming Roadside Rides movies such as call jane, the directorial debut of Oscar nominee Phyllis Nagy, with Elizabeth Banks and Sigourney Weaver, about an underground group of abortion activists in 1968 in Chicago, bent on breaking the law in support of women’s health; Y gigi and natStarring Charlie Rowe, Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden and Jim Belushi. Inspired by real events, this image tells the story of Nate Gibson, a disabled young man who finds hope through his relationship with his service animal, a charming and curious Capuchin monkey named Gigi.
Roadside Co-Chairs Eric D’Arbeloff and Howard Cohen said, “Our new relationship with Hulu is a win-win for everyone, but especially for the talented producers whose films we acquire for distribution. This means that we at Roadside can focus on optimizing our films in theaters and making sure they find the right home on Hulu’s premium streaming platform, which offers the highest level and funniest independent cinema in the industry.
“Delivering great stories is a core goal shared by Hulu and Roadside Attractions,” said Hulu President Joe Earley. “We are fortunate to have his long-awaited new titles available to our audiences as part of our industry-leading independent film portfolio.”
Along with Roadside’s Cohen and Angel An, the deal with Hulu was brokered by Lionsgate’s Ryan Lowerre and Dillon Siler.
Lionsgate owns a minority stake in Roadside and distributes Roadside films in US home entertainment; As part of this deal, the studio will negotiate Roadside’s Pay 1 theater production deals.
