You just have to put the pieces together. On Friday, August 26, Deadline exclusively revealed that “Scarlet Witch and Vision” director Matt Shakman was in talks to direct the new “Fantastic Four” movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Matt Shakman (“Scarlet Witch and Vision”) would leave “Star Trek” to direct the MCU’s “The Fantastic 4”

According to the deadlines, Shakman would be in the initial phase of negotiations with Marvel Studios to direct “The Fantastic Four” And there’s nothing definitive yet, but his departure from “Star Trek” could be a clear indication that the director has decided to stay at Marvel to take charge of restarting the ill-fated franchise within the MCU. Initially, the film would be directed by Jon Watts (director of the ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy with Tom Holland), but he abandoned the project because he needed a break from superhero movies, leaving the director’s chair free. Apparently, Marvel Studios hasn’t made a formal offer to Shakman yet, but everything points to him taking Watts’ place.

It makes sense that Kevin Feige turned to Shakman afterwards the excellent reception of the miniseries on Wanda Maximoff and Vision, which kicked off Phase 4 of the UCM early 2021. The limited series garnered 23 Emmy nominations (of which it won 3), including one for Shakman for Best Director, and was an audience success.

After several failed attempts, the wait (and pressure) for the new version of “Fantastic Four” is skyrocketing. John Krasinski, an audience favorite to play Reed Richards, appeared as the character in a cameo in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, thus satisfying the wishes of Marvel fans, but it is not known if he will return to the MCU. Rumor has it that it will be at D23 Expo, which will take place from 9 to 11 September, when Marvel will announce the actors who will form their First Family.

“Fantastic Four” has a release date set for November 8, 2024.

Other job applicants

After Watts’ departure from the project, Marvel Studios immediately began looking for a replacement to manage “The Fantastic Four” and now, thanks to Bory’s kitwriter on the staff of The Hollywood Reporter, we meet Two other candidates that the company has considered in recent months. According to the journalist’s sources, Feige met Reid Carolin (producer of, among others, ‘Magic Mike’ and co-director of ‘Dog: Wild Journey’) and Michael Matthews, director of the fantastic Netflix film ‘Love and Monsters’, portrayed by Dylan O’Brien. Apparently, the thing was between Matthews and Shakman, who ultimately turned the balance towards the director of “WandaVision”.
