With just two episodes, “She-Hulk: Lawyer Hulka” unexpectedly turned out to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe glue series. Winks and links to other UCM titles are very frequent throughout his films and series, but the comedy with Tatiana Maslany is taking everything to the next level. For example, the second episode, which lasts just twenty minutes, is filled with wonderful references – some of them well crafted – and meta winks at the viewer that make it the most cheeky and playful series in the Marvel Universe so far.

From the confirmation of a prominent member of the X-Men to a highly commented detail on ‘Eternals’, passing through the spicy background of Jen Walters and the most meta joke Marvel has ever made so far, with a nod to Edward Norton’s Hulk. Here are all the references of the second chapter of “She-Hulk”. And there are seven left!
Attention! SPOILER from here
Wolverine is canon in the MCU.
In the second episode of “She-Hulk”, titled “Superhuman Law”, Jen Walters loses her job after becoming She-Hulk during the trial of the first episode. After doing several interviews with no luck, Jen is desperate and begins to consider leaving the law. Visiting a site about possible career change jobs, Marvel hides a very important mention of the X-Men in the related articles of the page: if we look closely, in the right column a title appears that says: “Man fights with metal claws in a bar fight”. Clear reference to Wolverine, who thus officially becomes canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The giant of “Eternals”
Why does no one in the MCU refer to the giant that appeared in the ocean during the events of “Eternals”? This is the question that many fans have been asking themselves lately and, to reassure them, “She-Hulk” finally alludes to Tiamut with another title in the same scene: “Why is there a giant statue of a man coming out of the ocean?”. We don’t know if it was planned in advance or was a reaction to the debate, but with “She-Hulk”, the MCU finally decides to stop ignoring the issue.
“America’s ass”
“She-Hulk” has been described as the most exciting series in the MCU, and in both ways, not only for its humor, but also for its greener (* pun *) jokes than normal, albeit without. exaggerate, which continues to be Wonder. That’s why we’re not surprised that Jen Walters’ mobile wallpaper is an image of America’s own ass. Yes, Steve Rogers aka Captain America’s butt is what Jen sees every time she picks up the phone.

Hulk is “literally” another actor
“She-Hulk” connects directly with the events of “The Incredible Hulk”, among other things with the presence of Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky, better known as the Abomination. After losing her job, a rival law firm offers Jen a position, provided she agrees to take on Blonsky’s case. Jen calls her cousin Bruce about her to tell him that she will represent the monster she tried to kill him in the past, and he tells her that’s okay, introducing the most meta prank we’ve seen in the MCU so far: “That fight happened many years ago. Now I’m a completely different person. Literally.”. Jen reacts with an “Ah!” looking at the camera, making viewers complicit in the joke, which obviously refers to the fact that before Mark Ruffalo took control of the character, the Hulk was played by another actor, Edward Norton.
Are the Avengers getting paid?
This topic has already been addressed in “Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, but “She-Hulk” brings it back to the fore because it is something that many fans are really wondering. As she evaluates what to do with her life after being fired and evaluates her possible future as a superhero, Jen asks herself some very valid questions: “Are the Avengers getting paid? Do you have health insurance?”.
Thanks to “Ally McBeal”
In addition to “Fleabag”, the creators of “She-Hulk” also cited “Ally McBeal” as one of the (obvious) references when creating the tone and story of Jennifer, a single lawyer in her thirties who navigates through life, work and dating. In a scene at the bar that Jen usually goes to after work, we can see that an episode of the Calista Flockhart series is being broadcast on television. A very topical cathode tribute. Hopefully the next one will be “Futurama’s Sole Advocate”.
Hawkeye’s arrows
At another point in the episode, Jen goes to dinner at her family’s house and her father asks her the question that many Marvel fans have been asking for a long time, and which is already a recurring joke: what about the arrows of the Eye of Hawk after a fight? then go get them? In the series ‘Hawkeye’ the subject has been touched, but there are still many doubts about it.
Connection with ‘Shang-Chi’
Screenwriter Jessica Gao had previously revealed that “She-Hulk” takes place shortly after the events of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, but in the second episode the series gives us a clearer idea of where exactly it is. in the timeline, and they would actually be quite simultaneous. “She-Hulk” shows us Abomination in the news fighting Wong in an underground fighting ring, something we saw in “Shang-Chi”.

Hulk says the title of the series
Speaking to Jen on the phone about how she’s been dubbed in the media and the fact that in her new studio she always has to work in the form of She-Hulk, Bruce says loudly and proudly his cousin’s new nickname: “She-Hulk: Lawyer Hulka “(” She-Hulk: Attorney At Law “), which is both the title of the series. * Put Leonardo DiCaprio meme on the couch pointing to the TV in ‘Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood’ *
Planet Hulk?
Finally, in the same conversation, Jen asks Bruce if he’ll be back in Los Angeles soon, to which he replies “Not at the moment. I have to take care of some little things”. The scene then opens to reveal the Hulk aboard a spaceship that seasoned fans have identified as a class eight Sakaaran. Sakaar is the planet led by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), which we saw in “Thor: Ragnarok”. In this way, Marvel could plant a new seed for the adaptation of two iconic arches of the Emerald Giant that comic fans have been waiting for a long time (and which had already been partially introduced in ‘Ragnarok’): ‘Planet Hulk’. and “World War Hulk”. It is not yet clear how they will do this, since as far as we know, the rights to the Hulk still partly belong to Universal, which is why the character hasn’t had a solo film since 2008. But what seems clear is that his story goes in that direction. Perhaps at the D23 Expo, which takes place from 9 to 11 September, we will know more.
this has just begun
Be careful, because if it seemed to you that the first two episodes of “She-Hulk: She-Hulk Lawyer” are full of references and links to the UCM (tremble, Deadpool!), We still have seven more where, given what it is been seen, anything can happen stuff. Those who were able to see the first chapters in advance, especially highlight the cameos and post-credits scenes. We we know thanks to the promos that the series will see Charlie Cox in the role of Daredevil and Benedict Wong in the role of Wongbut knowing Marvel, we are sure that more surprise appearances await us.
“She-Hulk: the lawyer She-Hulk” premieres a new chapter every Thursday on Disney +with 9 in all.
