“King Kong” will have a live-action series for Disney + produced by James Wan

Beware that the biggest gorilla of all time comes to Disney +. The streaming platform will host the first real action series of the legendary “King Kong”, although it is still in the early stages of development. James Wan’s production company Atomic Monster has signed on to manage the project. and hired “Paper Girls” creator Stephany Folsom to write the scripts.

According to Deadline, “King Kong” is planned as an action-adventure drama, that will bring the classic monster story into the modern era, returning to Skull Island to see the dawn of a new Kong. The series will explore the mythology of the giant ape’s origin story and the supernatural mysteries of his home. The character first appeared in the 1933 film of the same name, directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack and starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong and Bruce Cabot, although it appears that the material they will use for the series will be Joe DeVito’s novels.

A story as big as he is

It is not, however, the first time they have tried to get this series off the ground, 5 years ago it was in development with a completely different team at MarVista Entertainment and IM Global Television. In its 90-year history, the character has acted and starred in the films “King Kong” (1933), “The Son of Kong” (1933), “King Kong vs. Godzilla ‘(1962),’ King Kong Escapes’ ( 1967), ‘King Kong 76’ (1976), ‘King Kong 2 (King Kong lives)’ (1986), ‘The Mighty Kong’ (1998), a Disney cartoon musical; ‘Kong: King of Atlantis’ ( 2005), also animated; “King Kong” (2005), “Kong: Return to the Jungle” (2007), cel-shaded style; “Kong: Skull Island” (2017) and “Godzilla vs. Kong ‘(2021); although it also served as inspiration for “The Great Gorilla” (1949), “My Great Friend Joe” (1998). Additionally, he has appeared in several cartoon series, the latest for Netflix being a legendary anime project titled “Skull Island”.
