A few weeks after its premiere, “Prey” became one of the most successful and acclaimed films in the “Predator” saga. Now, director Dan Trachtenberg has revealed that the Chinese actor, Jackie Chan, played a very important role in the development of the main character, the warrior Naru.
In the past, director Dan Trachtenberg, who has worked on series such as “The Boys” or “Black Mirror”, revealed some of the works that influenced the creation of ‘Prey’, such as Alfonso Cuarón’s’ Gravity’, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s’ Revenant ‘, George Miller’s’ Mad Max: Fury Road’ and now Jackie Chan’s films.
In an interview for The cinematic broadcast, Dan Trachtenberg revealed that Jackie Chan inspired Naru’s character ‘Prey’, especially in the form of combat and the movements of the Comanche warrior with which she faces the fearsome Predator, as well as the ingenuity to get out of complicated situations, just like the Chinese actor does.
We referred to Jackie Chan. I certainly felt very uncomfortable every time I talked about it, because she said, ‘Why do we keep talking about Jackie Chan?’ I kept making her watch her movies. ”
Specifically, it was the movie ‘The armor of God’ with Jackie Chan, the one who influenced ‘Prey’: “And it’s like,’ Oh yeah, this guy is great and he’s capable of things. ‘ It was quite a challenge for her to find a way that you believe that she is not a zero, that she is not the nerd who becomes a hero. She is starting in a place where there is physical competition, but she has not gotten there. ” called Trachtenberg.
The director of “Prey” forced his protagonist to watch Jackie Chan movies
Also, Dan Trachtenberg claims that he forced Ambert Midthunder to watch Jackie Chan movies, so that he could understand the relationship between his character Naru in the story and the Asian Hawk protagonist in “Armor of God”, played by Jacki Chan himself. without shotguns of any kind.
“So, for me, it was like there can be something in her physique that she feels like she has the skills, but not as much as ‘I’m the baddest I’ve ever lived,'” says Trachtenberg. “So it’s in the small details, like when she turns the Tomahawk and cuts, those were the main influences on Jackie Chan. That and her sliding down the mountain and kicking. So that was the point of making her watch a million Jackie Chan movies, it was those two things. ”
It is currently unknown whether “Prey” will have a sequel on Disney +, Hulu, Star + or now in a conventional cinema. But it looks like the animated closing credits scenes indicate that a second part may come at some point in the future. But there have been no official confirmations.
