Review: Hello everyone WORSHIP OF THE LAMB

Devolver Digital was released last week Worship of the Lamb by Massive Monster. The game is a roguelike cult DIY simulator and is now available on Nintendo Switch, PC (GOG | Steam), PS4, PS5, and Xbox (affiliate link). The Devolver Digital team was kind enough to provide me with a PC copy of the game to review, but the following thoughts are mine.

In Cult of the Lamb, get ready to start your cult in a land of false prophets. Venture into different and mysterious regions to build a loyal community of woodland worshipers. Spread your Word to become the only true cult! As you accumulate your flock, you will gather and use resources to build new structures, perform dark rituals to appease the gods, and deliver sermons to strengthen the faith of your cult. Explore a randomly generated sprawling world, battle hordes of enemies, and defeat rival cult leaders to absorb their power to assert your cult’s dominance.

Ever since I learned about this game I knew I needed it. I heard about it and laughed. I saw a first trailer for it and besides laughing I had a burning desire. Worship of the Lamb it is absolutely amazing. The game is basically a perfect match between Hades and Animal Crossing. You have to defeat 4 prophets in a roguelike action game. Levels are randomly generated, so no two runs are alike and you have to complete a few runs before you can get to the bosses. In the meantime, when you are not chasing these prophets, you have to build and develop a cult / settlement and it is a lot of fun.

On the roguelike side of things, the only complaint I have is that it seems too easy at times, but I’m only playing on Medium difficulty. There are two more above for anyone more hardcore than me. The cult management is a little less perfect even if it is still excellent. For starters, I feel it’s hard, at least early in the game, to get enough resources to really move forward. Obtaining lumber and stone can sometimes seem complicated. I’m just glad they have the buildings that generate the resources over time. Another thing I don’t like is that it takes so long to really automate farming. It takes so long for your followers to be able to reap the crops and it’s a little annoying. Soon enough they can plant, water and fertilize crops, but harvesting takes so long and you have to do it for some time. My only other complaint I have is that there is no real explanation if you have to go to certain areas to find certain types of fish or if it is the time of day or something else. Right, Worship of the Lamb also has fishing! Tell me this isn’t a near-perfect game.

The art of this game is fabulous, the sound design and the music are amazing. I really struggle to find fault with this game. If you haven’t already picked it up, I highly recommend it Worship of the Lamb. Especially since they are only $ 24.99. This could be my game of the year for 2022.
