In surprising news this week, it turns out that The CW has a very different demographic than most of us would have imagined, and the internet is howling about it. In a call that took place on Monday, Nexstar Media Group executives revealed how they hope to transform The CW into “a more cost-conscious broadcast network that caters to a wider audience.” As it turns out, the CW is much closer to that goal than anyone could have imagined.
The reality, according to Nextstar President and COO Tom Carter, is that the average CW viewer is 58, which he says is why the broadcast network is also the lowest of all five. Since the CW is home to teenagers like Riverdale, All Americans And The flashthe news of its 50-year charm makes the Internet laugh.
Mike Roycethe former EP on One day at a timeand creator of the TNT series Men of a certain agefamously loved by an older audience, he tweeted:
“I would have laughed if the average age had been 40. 58 is a true comic genius.” Then he added: “Later Riverdalestay tuned for a whole new one Men of a certain age“.
Of course, one of the main reasons the numbers come out this way is that most teen viewers of these shows opt to stream the shows rather than tune in to watch them on the channel itself, but it’s still fun to imagine our parents having. invested heavily in the next season’s Riverdale.
