Lies and family betrayals in “The creatures of God”, the new psychological thriller from A24

In recent years, the A24 production house has earned a reputation that makes everything that has its signature a guarantee of something worthwhile. Now they have released the first trailer for “God’s Creatures”, the new psychological thriller from directors Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer.

“The Fits” was the first collaboration of directors Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer, and now they are preparing their new film, “Creatures of God’, a thriller produced by A24in which Paul Mescal and Emily Watson are the protagonists who give life to a mother and her son in a story of lies, betrayal and family secrets.

After starring in the “Normal People” series, Starring Paul Mescal ‘Creatures of God’, which already premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. The story is set in a fishing village whipped by a strong wind, and where his mother must protect her newly arrived son.

According to the official synopsis of ‘Creatures of God’ revealed by A24, the mother, played by Emily Watson, must protect her son guided by her “sense of good and evil. A lie she tells him shatters her family and their close-knit community in this tense and overwhelming emotional epic.

The story of “Creatures of God” is based on a screenplay by Shane Crowley, with a story by Fhodla Cronin O’Reilly and the writer himself. The two have also been producers of other acclaimed films such as “Lady Macbeth” or “Ammonite”. While the rest of the cast also includes Aisling Franciosi, Declan Conlon, Marion O’Dwyer and Toni O’Rourke.

Some of the critics of ‘Creatures of God’ from those who have already seen it (via IndieWire), write “a very cold affair, both for its position and for the subject matter. But the powerful performances by stars Emily Watson and Paul Mescal add spark to the film. ”

The release date of “The Creatures of God” will be next September 30th in selected theaters and also on some video on demand platforms. There is currently no information on the launch in Mexico or Latin America, but more details are expected soon.
