At a time when platforms are going through a period of change, two of the market’s big competitors have announced new measures in their plans and subscriptions. And now, for the first time in their history, Netflix has lost to Disney and they are outnumbered by total subscribers.
In previous months, the streaming red giant announced the loss of subscribers for the first time since its creation, and with the war in Russia and Ukraine, (via El universal), Netflix lost 700,000 accounts withdrawing his service from the first country, which meant an unexpected blow to the company.
Now, The Walt Disney Company registered a total of 221.1 million subscribers, according to the third quarter report of the year. The rise of its Disney + platform was 31% in one year, but the numbers also include all of the company’s entertainment services like ESPN and Hulu, including live TV.
With those numbers, Disney beats Netflix for the first time, which currently have a total of 220 subscribers, 67 million users. Although it is worth remembering that while the Mickey Mouse House includes several services and platforms, the Red N company is a unique service.
Disney copies Netflix with its new plans
Recently, Netflix has been criticized for its aggressive plan to eliminate the ability to share accounts in other homes and for the fact that those who decide to do so will be charged an additional fee, around $ 60 Mexican pesos. Although they also plan to roll out a new package, totally free, but with advertisements during the page experience.
Given these measures, Disney announced the implementation of a new plan, which would be the “Basic” package, which would be different from the “Premium” one, since, like Netflix, it would also be free, but with advertising. Furthermore, by the end of the year, it would raise the price of its subscription in the United States and slowly do so in other countries as well.
Right now, it takes some time for changes in these and other popular streaming platforms, such as HBO Max and its merger with Discovery +, to start seeing their changes reflected. So the streaming war could set the course for these services for the next few months.
