This week SEGA and Two Point Studios Limited were launched Two-point campus. This is Two Point’s second title and is now available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S (affiliate link). You can purchase digital copies through the appropriate store or physical copies are available through your favorite game retailers, including GameStop (affiliate link). It is also available from day one on Xbox Game Pass. The team was kind enough to provide me with a PC code to review the game, but all thoughts below are mine.
You can throw your own parties in Two Point Campus ™, complete with laser lights, overflowing red mugs and some killer tunes, is sure to make your students happy, or at least distracted. And if a typical student banquet isn’t enough, as an administrator of your own campus, you have the power to schedule live concerts from sure-fire 100% real bands like Helium Baboon, Alchemical Friendship or Boogie Knights. So, build a student union and get the party started, and yes, the floor should be sticky.
Maybe you want to take things a little slower? Hopefully it’s not too slow as the local Speed-Walking Club is looking for new recruits. Clubs are the perfect way to avoid thinking about your studies, whether it’s powerwalking on campus, scoring a few Zs in the middle of class with the Power-Napping Club, or gardening at the Nature Club. your feet, the sun on your face and the wind … wherever you feel it.
Two Point Campus is a fascinating university management simulator that lets you make your dreams of managing your campus environment come true, complete with wacky and wacky courses such as spell casting magic, the school of knights killing dragons or a top-secret spy school.
In Two-point campus, you are tasked with creating themed colleges and making sure students enjoy your school and succeed in academics. You can choose which courses are taught, hire staff, create classroom layouts, and more. If you like games like The Sims And The roller coaster tycoon, it’s the same principle. Personally I like it quite a lot and it looks good Two-point campus is that it has a star system to help you give you goals to work on. Many similar games are much more self-motivated, which is a struggle for me personally. I like the various goals the game gives you because it helps me get back so I can face that star or a fun goal.
The sound design for Two-point campus it’s really good. The background music is very relaxing and allows you to easily get lost in the game. It also isn’t quite integral, which means you’re not missing out if you want to mute game music and play your favorite tunes via Spotify, YouTube, etc. The voices you hear throughout the game are also well done and the character speaking through the speaker has some great lines like “Remember, plagiarism is not a belief system”.
In terms of graphics, the game doesn’t require a lot of power. I ran Two-point campus on a laptop that has an integrated Intel Iris GPU this is fine at the lowest settings. In fact, one of the great things about the stylized look used in the game is that when you set the game to Very Low, it doesn’t look bad at all. There are some things that don’t look as round as some trees, but I’ve never felt like that detracts from the game. I also ran it at maximum settings on my desktop which has an RTX 2060 Super and as I said the game is stylized in such a way that I knew it ran smoother and better on my desktop, but it didn’t distract me from playing on my laptop.
One of the fun aspects of Two-point campus is how fun colleges themselves are. You basically start by building a small technical school and then eventually pass a cooking school, a knight school, a magic school, an art school, a spy school and much more. I haven’t seen them all, but they’re all a lot of fun. I also appreciate the way some of them introduce new game elements such as the invasion of the knights in Noblestead (the school of knights). You need to make sure you have security guards who take care of the troublemakers.
While I absolutely love Two-point campus, there are some things I wish it did a little better. For starters, the tutorial does a good job of giving you a general idea of how to play, but I felt I could have used more help with some of what I consider to be the more technical aspects of the game. This includes things like your campus attractiveness. There are elements that say they improve the attractiveness of your campus, but nothing about how they improve it. Does the flowerbed give more points than that tree? Are all items the same? Do I want to diversify? There is no real tutorial guide for this.
All in all, however, I like it very much Two-point campus. He’s a lot of fun and doesn’t take himself too seriously. It’s a lightweight game that’s good for everyone and thanks to its design you don’t need a gaming beast to run it. He’s funny, he’s in a good mood, and he’s easily accessible. If you’ve ever liked these management games, definitely give it a try. I may also have to go back and pick up Two-point hospital now.
