Marvel’s next animated series I am Groot it looks very funny and I enjoyed the first episode. The series is a collection of five short episodes about little Groot’s wild adventures and the hijackings he finds himself in. vin Diesel reprises his role as Groot, and Bradley Cooper is back as Rocket Racoon.
I thought the series was an MCU canon, but this seems to be something that James Gunn and Marvel disagrees. During a Q&A session on Instagram, Gunn was asked if the show was set in Earth-616 or in another universe. He replied, “Some people at Marvel seem to think it’s canonically MCU. I find it hard to see myself.”
Gunn earlier shared his doubts about the show’s place in the MCU and its connection to the Guardians of the Galaxy, saying, “They’re animated shorts so not necessarily part of the Guardians saga. They’re canons unto themselves, I’d say.”
However, the producers of the series think it is clear that the series is canonical. Producer Brad Winderbaum explained to CB: “It’s a narrow window, right? It actually takes place between the end of Guardians 2 and before the tag scene in Guardians 2. So, it’s in this narrow window that Groot [is] in that kind of post-baby stage of development. “
The series was created by Kristen Leporeand she shared that she even consulted with Gunn throughout the creation process I am Groot saying, “I had great encounters with James at different points in the process. And the most crucial was our initial meeting, where we just discussed this amazing character he created just to make sure we could be little Groot the way he did. which it should. “
So while Gunn and the producers may seem at odds over where I am Groot is in the MCU, the creators and producers of the show claim it is, so it has to be. I wonder where Kevin Feige is on the matter. Regardless, it looks like he will entertain fans! The series will premiere on Disney + on August 10. Watch the trailer here!
