Movies about humans facing deadly animals never go out of style. There are exceptional examples like “Tiburón” and others much more bizarre like “Pirañaconda”. Director Baltasar Kormákur is now entering this genre to release “The Beast”, a film with Idris Elba. The story, following in the footsteps of “The Demons of the Night”, centers on a man who travels to Africa with his daughters to reconcile with them and rediscover the roots of his deceased wife. But his journey goes awry when a ferocious lion escapes a group of poachers and begins savagely slaughtering everything and everyone who crosses his path. The film can now be seen in theaters.
On his duel with the lion, “It’s something I can cross off my to-do list before I die”Elba tells in an exclusive interview for eCartelera. For the British, who in his career has faced numerous threats in his films and series, this lion “it is among my best works for the complexity of making it seem real”. In fact, that confrontation was the hardest thing to do in the film. “None of the lions are real and it was the hardest thing because, without having real animals, you had to make it look real to the audience”comment.
“The Beast” is the first time that Elba has worked with Kormákur and his experience could not have been better. “He is fantastic, he is a visionary with many ideas”emphasizes the actor. The same goes for Iyana Halley and Leah Jeffries, who play their daughters in the film. “It’s very easy to work with them, they understood what they were doing and where the film was going, it was a lot of fun” ensures grateful.

The importance of shooting in Africa
Apart from the spectacle of violence, one of the attractions of “The Beast” is that it is shot entirely on the African continent. Specifically, the shooting took place in South Africa. A place where Elba “I love to work”. So, it supports it “in Africa there is a large film community, especially in South Africa”. Therefore, working there was essential to give the film authenticity.
