Key characters from “House of the Dragon” to understand the “Game of Thrones” prequel

The Series’House of the Dragon’ is a prequel to ‘game of Thrones’set 300 years before anything known on television about George RR Martin’s adaptation of A Song of Fire and Ice. For the same reason, its characters and protagonists will be different from those of GOT, showing a different and new story.

When his story unfolds, the characters of ‘House of the Dragon’ are not those of ‘game of Thrones’; although they would have been the ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), the famous Mother of Dragons who wiped out GOT as the only survivor of her lineage known as the House of the Dragon.

During “The House of the Dragon” several important characters of its history will be discovered, but the main protagonists are three and five: Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), the King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifanis); which will give life to the central plot of this GOT spin off series.

The Targaryens from “House of the Dragon”

The story of “The House of the Dragon” tells the dilemma that the kingdom is going through three centuries before what was known in “Game of Thrones”: Rhaenyra Targaryen King Viserys’s successor as his eldest daughter who by law inherits the Iron Throne; or seek the first male in the line of succession to continue the legacy that only men have reigned.

Targaryen demon, Viserys’ younger brother, will be the first alternative to prevent a woman from reigning over Westeros, which in this case is Rhaenyra. However, actually considering him as an option will be difficult, especially after he himself becomes not only the uncle of the heir, but also her husband.

The Hightower in search of the Iron Throne

Although Rhaenyra Targaryen grew up with Alicent Hightower, time will turn them into enemies when she becomes the wife of King Viserys and, as such, the princess’s stepmother. Her position will also be influenced by her father, Otto Torre Altawho has the ambition to take over the Iron Throne and will use it to achieve his goals.

As long as it is within their reach and in their hands, this family will prevent Rhaenyra from taking the Iron Throne and will try to give King Viserys a new heir: her first and only child. A decision that will trigger a war between the main characters that will end up affecting the entire organization of the kingdom, the alliances and the relationships of the Targaryens themselves.
