Dominic Monaghan becomes a Moon detective in “Moonhaven”. Created and developed by Peter Ocko, the series is available on AMC + from this August 11 and tells how the first colony of human beings on Earth’s satellite faces a terrible threat from a conspiracy that seeks to take control of the community and destroy the hopes for humanity that still lives on the planet. A production that, in a science fiction key, tells a story of intrigue. “Show what happens when you look behind the facade of a heavenly setting”says the British actor.

‘Moonhaven’ portrays the settlement of a colony of humans on the Moon. Set in the future, when Earth’s societies are devastated by climate change, Bella Sway (Emma McDonald) is a smuggler pilot who is sent to a utopian community located on Earth’s satellite. It is a kind of Garden of Eden of 800 square kilometers whose inhabitants have settled in the lunar territory to find solutions to problems that exist on planet Earth.
Although it is a science fiction production, ‘Moonhaven’ is more thriller-inclined, recounting how the young woman, along with lunar detective Paul Sarno (Monaghan) investigate who is behind this terrible conspiracy. that threatens the future of humanity. “Science fiction is a genre that has always fascinated us, but we must try to find new and original ways to tell those stories set in the future. Here comes the hand of Peter Ocko, who has created a tremendously interesting world”, Monaghan points out in an interview with eCartelera.
The dark side of a utopian society
“Dig deeper to see what’s beyond a kind of closed community living in a dream environment and who, suddenly, is disturbed. On the other hand, it questions everything that happens and the actions of the characters. He leaves several questions and, at the same time, explores how this lunar society works “says the actor, who considers it “Moonhaven” touches on current issues, such as the environmental crisis caused by climate change.

“I think it speaks of issues that sooner or later we will have to address, especially in relation to companies that do not stop growing and growing, despite the limited resources. When it comes to the lunar society seen in the series, I think it represents a relatively naive yet functional community of people trying to live in harmony with nature. and they understand that it is essential to create clean air and eat right. I think this kind of behavior is something we have to look for in itself, ask ourselves how to improve our local environment and try to make it the best it can be. It is a crucial conversation that we all need to have”the actor exposes.
While the story of a human colony on the moon may be an interesting premise, what convinced Monaghan to join the project was how Ocko’s coordinated screenplays approached the storyas well as the background of his role in fiction. “What makes me accept to enter a project is the script, it is fundamental. And here I saw a very interesting script in which the future has not been worse for people, that after all there is a look of hope”supports the interpreter, underlining this too attracted him “the intrigue”.

“Paul appears to be very naive, but he is not at all. I think he’s an intriguing character who can be played with in various ways. He is the father of three children in a complicated marriage and his way of acting as a detective is very different from that of a similar professional on Earth. He also has the soul of a community leader, as he tries to ensure that the voices of all the inhabitants are heard. But we’ll see how they get used to dealing with more serious crimes, which he never thought could be committed. It is a kind of representative of the golden part of the Moon, but it also has its own darkness “Keep it up.
“I would like to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘The Return of the King’ by reuniting with the entire Community”
Monaghan is aware of this 2023 will mark the 20th anniversary of the release of “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”and does not hesitate to want to celebrate it with all the actors who have been part of the Fellowship of the Ring. “I would like to celebrate it by meeting everyone. I know I’ll see the other three Hobbits, we’ll be in Boston for a couple of weeks, and then we’ll work in Toronto. But what I’d also like to see Sean Bean, Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, John Rhys-Davies … It would be fabulous, because we all shared a special experience, especially because we were the Community “points out.

“I think if we were all able to find a place or a time we could all be together, have dinner And, you know, sitting as brothers in arms and celebrating our lives would be a fitting way to pay homage to that incredible trilogy of films. “adds the interpreter, also known for playing Charlie Pace in the emblematic “Lost” between 2004 and 2010.
‘Moonhaven’ confirmed a second season, in which Monaghan hopes that Paul “struggle to understand many things”. “He has to grow more, this season, he’s really seen what’s behind this Garden of Eden. This paradise he lives in isn’t quite what it seems. Maybe in the next series of episodes, the writers will choose to explore a little. ‘more what lies behind this community and see how it really is “details.
