HBO Max completes the rollout of the customer experience update, including Shareplay and Shuffle

It looks like HBO Max is going through some tumultuous times. Several projects have gotten the ax after merging with Discovery, and many seem to be wondering if the platform will be around much longer. Well, for those who haven’t abandoned ship, your experience is officially better.

The user experience on desktop, mobile apps, and Amazon Fire tablets has been updated. This has brought many important features across all areas for a more cohesive experience, such as the Shuffle button now available on mobile devices so you can have the service pick a random episode to start with for your chosen program. Here is the breakdown for HBO Max:

  • Expanding the functionality of the Shuffle button to mobile devices. Previously only available for desktop and CTV experiences, this feature gives users the ability to randomize the first episode played to selected series on the platform.

  • SharePlay support for iPhone and iPad users (US only)

    • Subscribers in the US with an ad-free plan and an iPhone or iPad can now use SharePlay to watch their favorite HBO Max shows in sync with friends and family during a FaceTime call.

  • A dedicated home for downloaded content with improved performance and stability

  • Tablet holder for both landscape and portrait orientation

  • An enhanced screen reading experience with improved navigation elements and features

  • The ability to split screens with other apps on any mobile device supported by the behavior

  • Updated and intuitive navigation

  • A refined design and a visual style to make the contents shine

  • Chromecast stability improvements

It is not a small update. The question arises why some of these things are happening right now, but it is good that it is happening now. Let’s hope it’s not too late. Kamyar Keshmir of Warner Bros. Discovery Streaming said:

We’re excited to introduce the revamped HBO Max mobile and desktop apps. The changes give our users more features they care about more, along with improved navigation and a more engaging canvas for storytelling, helping them click to play their content favorites faster and with less friction.

Did you like the updated apps? What is your most requested feature?
